Writing a manuscript

One of the main goals in research is to publish papers. Our goal is not necessarily quantity (though of course more is better) but it is always quality. Below are some expectations for what happens during the writing process.

Take personal responsibility on the paper and writing process. This is particularly true if you are the main or one of the main contributing authors, e.g., coordinating with co-authors, making sure things are in place, submission, revision, and any other administrative tasks involved in seeing a publication through.

Be ok with imperfection to get something on the paper; macro ideas (organization, flow, argument) then micro revisions (grammar, figure placement, colors);
